Aranmula’s precious heritage should be protected and preserved for posterity, Swami Golokananda, senior monk attached to Sri Ramakrishna Math, has said.
He was inaugurating a day-long national seminar on Aranmula and Tirunizhalmaala organised by the Aranmula Heritage Trust at Aranmula on Monday.
The very proposition of the ancient poetry Tirunizhalmala was related to the presiding deity at the Sree Parthasarathy temple, M.M. Purushothaman Nair and N. Ajithkumar, historians, said.
Dr. Nair said Ramacharitam and Tirunizhalmaala were two poetic texts of ancient Kerala.
Dr Ajithkumar said the ancient poetic piece of Tirunizhalmaala gave enough proof that Aranmula was a prominent Namboodiri village in ancient Kerala.
Sanskrit scholar and former faculty member of the State-run Vasthu Vidya Gurukulam at Aranmula M. Mohanakshan Nair said that Tirunizhalmaala could be treated as the gazette of the yore of Aranmula.
R.C. Karippath, historian, said the work depicted the ritualistic practices of Malayar, a lower caste clan, at the temple at a time when untouchability ruled the roost.
K.G. Sasidharan Pillai, president of the Palliyoda Seva Sanghom, apex body of various Palliyoda Karayogams that organised the annual Aranmula snakeboat regatta, presided over the inaugural function.
Kummanam Rajashekharan, Aranmula Heritage Trust chairman, received Swami Golokananda and other guests, earlier. N.K. Sukumaran Nair, general secretary, Pampa Parirkashana Samiti; Amritharaj of the DC Books; K. Unnikrishnan, general convener; and R. Induchoodan, P.R. Shaji, K.P. Narayanan, and P. Harikrishnan, trust office-bearers, spoke.
