A two-day international seminar on ‘Arab culture and UAE heritage’ hosted by Calicut University Arabic Department on Monday and Tuesday called for improved cultural relations between Indian and the UAE.
“Stronger cultural ties between India and UAE are the need of the hour,” said Sheikh Mohammed Kamil Almuaini, founder-chairman of the International Institute of Cultural Diplomacy, Dubai.
He was delivering the keynote address at a seminar organised jointly by Calicut University Arabic Department and Dar Al Yasmin Publishers, Dubai, in association with Al Jamia Al Islamia, Santhapuram; and Rouzathul Uloom Arabic College, Feroke.
Inaugurating the seminar, Central University, Kasaragod, Vice Chancellor G. Gopakumar said that cultural and trade links between nations had reflected in their literature from time immemorial.
Calicut University Vice Chancellor K. Mohammed Basheer presided.
Dr. Basheer said that mutual translation of Arabic and Malayalam works would go a long way in cultural exchange between the two lands. Presenting the concept note, Arabic writer Mariam Al Shenasi praised Indian scholars for their services in strengthening the literary and cultural bonds between India and Arabia.
Seminar felicitated Arabic short story writer and columnist Nasar Al Dahiri on the occasion.
