Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has said that the observations made by the Comptroller and Auditor General of India on the State government’s lapses while signing the agreement with the Adani Vizhinjam Ports Ltd. for the ₹ 7,525 crore Vizhinjam International Multi-purpose Deepwater Seaport are “very serious”.

The government will examine the CAG’s observations, Mr. Vijayan said in reply to a question by T.V. Rajesh in the Assembly on Wednesday on the remarks in the CAG report on public sector undertakings for the year that ended March 2016, tabled in the House on Tuesday.

The CAG report had mentioned that the State’s interest was not protected in the pact between the previous UDF government and AVLP.

Finance Minister T. M. Thomas Isaac had on Tuesday stated that the LDF government “would not scrap the project” in view of the CAG’s remarks.

The AVLP of Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (APSEZ), the private multi-port operator, was selected through global bidding to build the superstructure and operate the seaport.
