The State police, on Sunday, finally got their hands on Devinder Singh, alias Bunty Chor, the man suspected to be behind the theft of an expensive car and other valuables from the house of a businessman secured by high-tech gadgets here on January 21.
Singh was detained at the Samarth Police Station in Somwar Peth of Pune on Saturday after police officials here, based on a tip-off, contacted their Pune counterparts asking them to detain Singh, who had checked into a hotel there. With a crime squad of the Thiruvananthapuram city police flying to Pune from Bangalore and confirming that the detained person was Singh, arrangements were made to ask for his custody.
Singh, who was detained by the Samarth police on the charge of planning a crime in their jurisdiction, was handed over to the Kerala Police team by Sunday noon, after which they took him to Mumbai. A senior official in the team said efforts were on to a catch a 6 a.m. flight to Kerala on Monday, failing which the team would take a train.
Police sources said Singh, during preliminary interrogation at Pune, had confessed to have committed the crime in Thiruvananthapuram. However, officials here refused to divulge further details, saying they could do so only after a detailed interrogation once Singh was brought to the city.
