Social Welfare and Panchayat Minister M.K. Muneer said that BUDS Centres for the schooling of special children will be opened in all gram panchayats in the State.

Inaugurating a BUDS Centre at Kolacherry panchayat here on Saturday, the Minister said that the establishment of special schools for the mentally-challenged children was a necessity today. Stating that the government had already established the BUDS Centres in Endosulfan-affected panchayats in the Kasaragod district, Mr. Muneer said that three more centres would be opened in the Kannur district, namely at Chokli, Kannapuram, and Kuttyattoor.

He also assured that one school bus each would be provided from the Kudumbasree Mission to the BUDS Centres after approval received from the Education Department. All the panchayats had been directed to start palliative care centres, he said adding that such centres were started in 400 panchayats.
