A second standard student suffered multiple injuries after he was bitten by a stray dog at the hill hamlet of Vellarikkundu on Tuesday evening.

Vipin, 7, son of Babu residing at Plachikkara, was bitten by a stray dog near his residence.

The boy suffered multiple head injuries and was rushed to the District Hospital at Kanhangad. On being informed that the hospital did not have stock of the anti-rabies vaccine, the boy was shifted to the General Hospital here late in the night.

Several cases reported

Of late, several such cases had been reported from different parts of the district, including Neeleswaram, Kanhangad, and Kasaragod.

Authorities here blamed the lack of expert dog trappers for the stray dog menace. Local body officials cited the shortage of funds to meet the hefty charges demanded by the personnel to trap stray dogs.
