Bouquet of services remains limited

KOCHI : More than two years after the State-wide rollout of e-district, a project aimed at delivering government services to the public through Akshaya centres, the number of services available through its dedicated portal remains unenviable.

Even out of the 41 services listed in the e-district portal, several ones remain just in that list. In reality, the 24 certificate services of the revenue department are the most assured services under the project notwithstanding attempts by a section of revenue officials to put up hurdles to thwart them. Payment of utility bills and the Motor Vehicle Department’s online services are also active to a certain extent. “However many of the MVD services are being offered through open portals rather than being routed through the e-district portal. Though Right to Information services are also listed in the portal, they are near non-existent,” a source told The Hindu. It is for the government to answer why services of more government departments are not being brought under e-district. The project as it is being implemented now remains an eye wash, the official said.
