The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is sure to surprise its political opponents in the forthcoming Assembly polls, party State election committee convener V. Muraleedharan has said.

Talking to The Hindu here on Sunday, Mr. Muraleedharan said the party was busy preparing a comprehensive master plan for Kerala aimed at a sustainable and pragmatic development of the State. The proposed master plan would bring about tremendous changes in the overall development of the State.

When asked why he has chosen Kazhakuttam Assembly segment, the former BJP State president said this constituency that houses institutions such as VSSC, Government Medical College, Sree Chithira Tirunal Institute of Medical Sciences and Technology, Kochu Veli railway terminal, Sainik School, and Technopark had got immense development potential.

Mr. Muraleedharan said Kazhakuttam with its broad contours could be made a major development hub of Kerala in a phased manner.

He said he was for developing Kazhakuttam and Thiruvananthapuram into self-contained twin cities like Secunderabad and Hyderabad, with Central support.

Mr. Muraleedharan said pre-poll surveys had got little relevance at this juncture as it was too early to predict the popular mood. However, he saw a positive change in the popular mindset in favour of the BJP.

People were fed up with the politics of intolerance and corruption pursued by the UDF and LDF in successive terms.

Minority votes

Mr. Muraleedharan said the minority communities as a whole were not against the BJP. ‘‘Minorities in Kerala are politically matured and the BJP will get a substantial support this time so as to cross the NDA target of 71-plus in the ensuing Assembly polls,’’ he said.
