A Bill for untying procedural knots that stymie industrial clearances will be piloted in the coming Assembly session, Industries Minister A.C. Moideen has said.
Inaugurating the Kerala Entrepreneurial Youth Summit 2018 organised by the Kerala State Youth Welfare Board here on Wednesday, Mr. Moideen said the government was trying to dispel the notion that Kerala lacked an investor-friendly milieu and find a higher slot for the State in the investment destination graph of the country.
The State, ranked 20th now, was trying to secure a position between five and 10, he said.
“The proposed Bill seeks to amend laws and provisions that tend to delay clearances and it has been decided to amend even the Single Window Clearance Act to accord licences without delay. The government is focussing on honing the entrepreneurial skills of the youth and equipping them to start ventures that will provide jobs than becoming jobseekers,” the Minister said.
Immense job potential
Mr. Moideen said other than information technology, the State had immense job potential in food processing, traditional industries and the micro, small, and medium enterprises sector. Infopark in Kochi and Technocity and Technopark here were equipped to provide jobs.
The government was committed to setting up industrial parks where entrepreneurs could function in a protected environment. The proposed rubber park, spices park, and petrochemical industries park were some among them.
He explained a slew of opportunities that were emerging in the defence manufacturing sector.
The youth should learn to exploit the opportunities here and try to develop them in a manner conducive to the State’s social and political milieu.
Youth Welfare Board vice chairman P. Biju presided.
