Better amenities for Kanhangad station

The Railways is planning to improve amenities in the Kanhangad railway station in view of its growing prominence as a gateway to major tourist and pilgrim destination and an upcoming educational hub.

An assurance to this effect was made by Southern Railway Chief Material Manager V. Sudhakara Rao to office bearers of Kanhangad Nagara Vikasana Samithi and Railway Passengers Association.

Mr. Rao, who reached here around 7 a.m., made a thorough inspection that stretched till 11 a.m., sources here said. Kanhangad, which assumed importance in the rail map in recent years, is a gateway to tourist destinations like Bekal Fort, Ranipuram Hill Resort, the hill station of Talacauvery besides leading pilgrim centres like Anandashram and Nithayanandashram.

The station also assumed importance in view of its proximity with the upcoming Central University of Kerala’s campus at Periye.
