In the wake of recurring ATM card frauds, State Police Chief Loknath Behera has cautioned the public to be on guard against attempts to obtain payment card information.

Mr. Behera pointed out that many people were falling prey to such rackets despite advisories to this effect. He said calls were being made to obtain ATM card details and one-time passwords (OTP) on various pretexts, including linking Aadhaar cards with bank accounts.

Many banks and financial institutions send OTPs to the registered mobile numbers of the bank account holders as a safety measure while facilitating online transfer of money. Anonymous persons pretending to be representatives of banks had been reported to have contacted unsuspecting bank account holders to obtain OTPs for transactions.
