“Misrepresenting facts is not a good practice for the media,” Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said while inaugurating the World Media Meet here on Friday.
“While foreign media sticks to original reports, we resort to fabricating news. Meets like this can function as venues for mediapersons working abroad to share their experience,” he said.
The Chief Minister added that the event, organised in association with the Loka Kerala Sabha, should be continued in the coming years.
He said the Loka Kerala Sabha, to be held at the Legislative Assembly Complex from January 12, would provide a platform for Keralites across the world to articulate their concerns and opinions about the future of the State.
Tapping Keralite talent
“There are many Keralites with technical expertise settled abroad. The government is trying to bring their talent and investment here creating more job opportunities,” he said.
The coming together of Non-Resident Keralite mediapersons would be beneficial to the overall development of the State, said Fisheries Minister J. Mercykutty Amma, who was the chief guest.
The draft of the Loka Kerala Sabha and the logo of the media training programme of the Indian Press Club of North America were released at the event.
Held as a prelude to the Loka Kerala Sabha, the meet was presided over by Kerala Media Academy Chairman R.S. Babu.
NoRKA Vice Chairman K. Varadarajan, Collector S. Karthikeyan, Deputy Mayor Vijya Francis, oncologist M.V. Pillai, Malayala Manorama former editorial director Thomas Jacob, former Chief Secretary D.
