‘Problems within front will end in meet to be held on May 1’

Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president Ramesh Chennithala said here on Thursday that the attempts by certain sections to topple the United Democratic Front (UDF) government by roping in some MLAs and some political parties would go futile.

He was addressing a reception accorded to his Kerala Yatra here. Mr. Chennithala said the problems within the UDF would be sorted out through talks. There was no discrimination within the front, and all partners would get equal consideration irrespective of their strength in the Assembly, he said.

The Congress leader said the UDF meeting to be held in Kochi on May 1 would bring an end to all problems within the front. “This government will certainly complete its five-year mandate,” he said.

‘Congress is the answer’

Mr. Chennithala said people like Narendra Modi were trying to wrest power at the Centre. “Only the Congress can parry the challenges posed by Narendra Modi,” he said, adding that Mr. Modi’s recent visit made no impact in the State. “Rahul Gandhi will be the Indian Prime Minister in 2014,” he said.

The Congress leader said it was the Communist Party of India (Marxist) that always created hurdles for the development of Kerala. “They are the people who opposed the computer and the tractor,” he said. He also condemned the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI).

Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) district unit president Syed Sadikali Shihab Thangal inaugurated the reception. District Congress Committee president E. Mohammed Kunhi; Congress leaders Suma Balakrishnan, Sharat Chandra Prasad, Shooranad Rajasekharan, K.P. Kunhikkannan, P.J. Poulose, I.K. Raju, Jason Joseph, Solomon Alex, KPCC general secretaries from the district; District Congress Committee office-bearers; IUML district unit secretary P. Abdul Hameed; P. Ubaidulla, MLA; and Malappuram Municipal Chairman K.P. Mustafa attended the reception.

Mr. Chennithala’s Yatra entered the district at Ayikkarapadi on Thursday morning. It was given receptions at Kondotty, Chelari, Othukkungal, Malappuram, Manjeri, Eranad, Wandoor and Nilambur.

Mr. Chennithala will be given receptions at Perinthalmanna, Angadipuram, Tirurangadi, Tanur, Tirur, Kuttippuram, Ponnani, and Edappal on Friday.
