The police team investigating a case of attack on Chief Minister Oommen Chandy here six months ago again served notice on Communist Party of India (Marxist) MLAs K.K. Narayanan and C. Krishnan to appear before the investigating officer on May 12.
DirectiveThe notice served on Friday asked the MLAs to appear before Taliparamba Deputy Superintendent of Police K.S. Sudarshan, who is heading the special investigation team, at 10 a.m. on Monday.
The latest notice issued by the police followed the MLAs’ response to an earlier notice stating their difficulty to appear before the DySP because of their pre-arranged programmes.
Mr. Chandy had suffered injuries when stones were thrown at his vehicle here on October 27 while he was on his way to inaugurate the valedictory function of the State police athletic meet.
LDF protestThe stones were allegedly thrown by Left Democratic Front (LDF) workers who were staging a ‘black flag’ protest demanding Mr. Chandy’s resignation over the solar scam.
The MLAs had been asked to appear before the DySP on April 28 in connection with the investigation in the case.
In response, Mr. Narayanan and Mr. Krishnan, representing the Dharmadam and Payyannur Assembly constituencies respectively, sent replies to the police saying that they were being falsely implicated in the case.
However, they said in their replies that they would appear before the police on another day convenient to the DySP if the latter was convinced that their appearance before him was required as part of the investigation.
The MLAs had alleged that the notice served earlier was part of an attempt by the ruling leadership of the State to make political gains and to cast aspersion on them.
