The body of the assistant sub inspector of Thrikkunnapuzha police station, Janardhanan Pillai, was found hanging from a ceiling fan in his house at Karuvatta, near here, early this morning.

According to the police, Pillai, 54, is suspected to have hung himself after cutting a vein on his hand. The policeman, who was transferred from the Venmony police station to the Thrikkunnapuzha police station 15 days ago, was supposed to assume charge on Friday, but did not. Police said he gave his wife Lalitha her medicines around 3 a.m. on Saturday and then locked himself in the adjoining room. Lalitha found his body in the morning and alerted the neighbours. Pillai is survived by Lalitha and their sons Anoop and Akhil.
