According to a statement issued here on Saturday, KGS Aranmula International Airport managing director Gigi George said the proposed Aranmula airport had been included in the list of greenfield airports planned in the financial year 2015-16.

According to Mr George, Mopa in Goa; Navi Mumbai, Shirdi and Sindhudurg in Maharashtra; Shimoga, Gulbarga, Hassan, and Bijapur in Karnataka; Kannur and Aranmula in Kerala; Durgapur in West Bengal; Pakyong in Sikkim; Datia/Gwalior (cargo) in Madhya Pradesh; Kushinagar in Uttar Pradesh; and Karaikal in Puducherry, are the other greenfield airports planned as part of the major initiatives to augment better airport infrastructure across the country, as per the Economic Survey.

He said the previous United Progressive Alliance government too had included the Aranmula airport project in the address made by President Pranab Mukherjee before Parliament, earlier.

Mr. George said the Economic Survey also stated the importance of the Aranmula airport project in terms of basic infrastructure development and revenue mobilisation.
