Anti-graft volunteer groups planned

Anna Hazare to visit Kannur, Kozhikode

Social activist and anti-corruption campaigner Anna Hazare will visit the district on Monday.

Anti-Corruption People’s Movement (ACPM) district office-bearers told a press conference here on Saturday that Mr. Hazare would be accorded a reception at Jawahar Auditorium here at 3 p.m.

He would reach the place after an interaction with students at St. Joseph’s College ground at Pilathara. His first visit to the State would begin at Kanhangad. ACPM district chairman P. Sharafuddin and member Bhaskaran Vellur said that Mr. Hazare would explain the anti-corruption drive being launched in the State.

An action plan to strengthen the civil society would also be explained, they said. The proposed plan envisaged the formation of panchayat-level volunteer groups to take up anti-corruption drives by invoking the Right to Information Act, Right to Services Act, and the Anti-Corruption Act, they said.
