An inspiring gesture

May 04, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:44 am IST - MALAPPURAM:

Charity begins at home. So believes NRI businessman K.T. Rabeeullah, who used his contacts and friends in the social media to reach out to hundreds of poor children studying in government schools.

Dr. Rabeeullah responded to a call by Minister for Industries P.K. Kunhalikutty to donate 45 buses to select government schools.

“It made me think for a while how lucky we are to have the luxury of transport,” he said. Dr. Rabeeullah, chairman of Shifa Al Jaseera group of polyclinics, handed over nearly half a crore rupees to Mr. Kunhalikutty recently.

He admitted that his gesture would get only a handful of school buses. “But the initiative I made has inspired many of my friends,” he said.

From June, as many as 45 new buses will join the fleet of government school vehicles in the State.
