The Janaraksha Yatra led by BJP State president Kummanam Rajasekharan from here to Thiruvananthapuram to mobilise public opinion against what the party calls Marxist and jihadi terror in the State got off to a politically eloquent start on Tuesday with party national president Amit Shah flagging off the foot march and joining the initial stretch of 8 km that concluded at Pilathara.

The yatra is part of the BJP’s initiative to take up the issue of ‘CPI(M)-instigated violence against Sangh Parivar workers’ in Kannur district and elsewhere in the State as a national-level campaign.

The presence of Mr. Shah in the initial stretch of the yatra on the first day and the scheduled participation of national-level leaders, including Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, in the coming days seeks to achieve country-wide attention to the party’s campaign. Mediapersons representing national news channels landed here to cover the event.

The public function to mark the inauguration was attended by a large number of BJP workers from Kannur district and nearby Kasaragod. Among those who turned up included party workers from Karnataka and Haryana.

A host of BJP leaders and leaders of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) were present at the inaugural function.

Before the inauguration of the march, the BJP president opened an exhibition here featuring photos of BJP-RSS workers killed allegedly by CPI(M) workers.

He paid tributes to their portraits and met the relatives of slain Sangh Parivar workers in different parts of the district.
