The Union Home Ministry has issued an red alert to fishermen from Kerala against venturing out into the sea in the southern parts of Laskhadweep sea from May 21 to 23 in view of the low pressure developing over the Arabian sea.
The Disaster Management Division of the Ministry of Home Affairs, in a letter to the Chief Secretaries of coastal States, including Kerala, said the depression, which was likely to develop into a cyclonic storm in the next three days, will trigger off squally winds with speed reaching 45-65 km per hour over the central parts of the south Arabian Sea from May 21 and over west central Arabian Sea from May 23.
The wind speed will gradually increase over these regions during May 22-May 26. Low pressure had formed over the southeast Arabian sea on Sunday morning, the advisory pointed out.
Movement
The storm is very likely to move west-north-westwards towards Oman-North Yemen coasts in the next five days.
The advisory said the sea condition was likely to be rough to very rough from May 21 over the Central parts of the south Arabian Sea and the west central Arabian Sea May 23 onwards..
