A State-level leader of the All India Students Federation (AISF) was attacked by a gang on Wednesday night at Mukathala on the outskirts of the city.
The Communist Party of India (CPI), the All India Youth Federation (AIYF), and the AISF alleged that a gang of Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) activists were behind the attack.
The victim was identified as G. Girish, State committee member of the AISF.
He has been admitted to a private medical college hospital here. Girish was attacked while he was on his way home on his motorcycle.
The CPI and the CPI(M) have been at loggerheads in the area for the past couple of months. Wednesday’s attack is being seen as an offshoot of this strained relationship.
On Thursday, the CPI-AIYF-AISF combine organised a march through the city is protest against the attack. Those leading the march alleged that the CPI(M) was trying to spread a veil of fear all over the district as part of its game plan to establish political hegemony in CPI strongholds.
In protest against the attack the CPI also called for a dawn-to-dusk hartal in Thrikovilvattam panchayat on Thursday.
