The government will ensure admissions to all applicants for the plus two courses in the State.
Chief Minister Oommen Chandy told the media that the Cabinet had decided to extend last date for finalising admissions through Centralised allotment to 3 pm on Thursday. Those who fail to get admissions would be accommodated in government higher secondary schools by the end of this month.
The Chief Minister recalled that the government had increased seats in existing batches by 20 per cent in government as well as private schools. Subsequently, ten more seats per batch were permitted in private schools. In case of courses in commerce and humanities an additional ten seats would be granted if schools made a request for that. However, some private schools were not availing the increased seats.
After the deadline is over on Thursday, principles of the schools would be free to fill vacant seats locally, giving preference to students who had studied in the same school. Additional batches would be created in government schools, if required, for giving admissions to the remaining students. They would be given admissions in their own districts, and as far as possible in their own taluks.
Mr. Chandy said that the proposed medical college to be set up in the joint sector with NRI participation at Harippad would start functioning from next year. A committee of officials had been formed for the management of the institution. The committee had the Principal Secretaries for Health and Finance as members.
The Cabinet had again recommended to the Public Service Commission that time should be given to applicants for assistant posts in the Secretariat to secure diplomas in computer applications. Diplomas had been prescribed as additional qualification for the post only recently. Hence the government wanted the PSC to specify that applicants need not hold the certificate at the time of application but need to produce it only at the time of scrutiny.
He said that a one man commission would be appointed to study the backwardness of Nadar community and submit recommendations to the government.
