The district administration has resolved to initiate stringent action against private bus operators who failed to maintain the stipulated time schedule.

A meeting of the District Development Committee (DDC), which was convened by District Collector K. Vasuki at the Collectorate on Saturday, witnessed calls for adopting steps to rein in erring private bus operators that ply in the district in violation of the fixed schedules. It was decided to empower the respective Revenue Divisional Officers (RDOs) to examine such occurrences, if any, and to adopt necessary steps.

District panchayat president V. Madhu elaborated on the various components of the Jalasree drinking water supply project that is intended to address the water scarcity in the district. The salient features of the proposed project included recharging of wells, renovation of water bodies, protection of water sources and construction of rainwater pits. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan is expected to formally launch the ambitious project on September 28.

The meeting also decided to deploy additional police personnel to address the problem of frequent traffic snarls in various areas including Kattakada, Thirumala and Kundamankadavu. The DDC resolved to adopt the necessary measures to ensure the launch of the proposed Government Ayurveda College in Nedumangad, the building for which has been successfully built by the district panchayat.

I.B. Satheesh, MLA, Additional District Magistrate John V. Samuel, Superintendent of Police (Thiruvananthapuram Rural) Ashok Kumar, District Planning Officer V.S. Biju, representatives of MPs and MLAs, and officials of various departments also participated in the meeting.
