Leader of the Opposition in Kerala Assembly V.S. Achuthanandan has showered encomiums on the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and its leader Prashant Bhushan for his determined fight against corruption and nepotism.

After presenting the Pirappancode Sreedharan Nair Memorial Award instituted by the Kerala Lawyers Club to Mr. Bhushan here on Saturday, Mr. Achuthanandan said Mr. Bhushan was making committed efforts for reconstructing Indian polity and judiciary.

He reminded the interventions made by Shanti Bhushan, Prasant Bhushan’s father, as Union Law Minister and also as a senior lawyer.

He also had a word of praise for the Campaign for Judicial Accountability and Judicial Reforms being run by them.

He said the fight taken up for the Jan Lokpal Bill was noteworthy. He had to suffer physical attacks for airing independent views on the Kashmir issue.

Such struggles had led to the formation of the AAP government in Delhi.

The fight against corruption and nepotism by people such as Mr. Bhushan needed to be carried ahead more vigorously, he said.

Mr. Bhushan returned the compliment by referring to Mr. Achuthanandan as a leader who belonged to a genre of politicians who upheld the values of the freedom struggle.
