The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested A.C. Abdulla, a proclaimed offender in the Hamsa murder case, from Chennai.
Hamsa was shot dead in 1989 for tipping off the Revenue Intelligence about the smuggling in of 1,600 contraband gold biscuits by his rival A.P. Abdurahiman of Mumbai. He was on his way to Kanhangad from Mangalore by road when the hired goons shot him dead. Hamsa was functioning as a carrier for transporting smuggled gold. As many as nine persons had been sentenced to life imprisonment. Four persons are still absconding.
According to the CBI, Abdulla, a hardcore criminal, was sentenced to 10 years rigorous imprisonment and Rs. 1 lakh fine by the Special Judge for NDPS cases, Mumbai. He escaped from judicial custody from Mumbai in 1999.
