A verbal swagger in the staff room between the supporters of Argentina and Brazil finally saw a show of strength on the ground.

The fierce battle of words between the teachers of PKMM Higher Secondary School, Edarikode, in support of Brazil and Argentina football teams in the FIFA World Cup came out in a keenly fought match in front of their students on Thursday.

Thousands of students in the district’s largest aided school witnessed the rare football match between their teachers. When the teachers played in the rain-soaked ground, the students got a chance not only to encourage them but to boo them down also.

Full vigour

The teacher resource group took the lead in organising the match. And the teachers took out all their energy and pride playing in the jersey of their favourite World Cup team in front of their students.

Some parents too reached the campus to witness the “historic match”. Some of them sported their favourite colours too. When physical education teacher Sarfaraz Ahamed led the ‘Brazil’ team, School Resources Group (SRG) convener K.P. Naser led the ‘Argentine’ rivals. But the final result of the match was in favour of ‘Brazil’. They defeated ‘Argentina’ by a solitary goal.
