Ahead of the real Thrissur Pooram, Thekkinkadu Maidan will witness another pooram of magical sounds.
Thrissur Pooram : A Travel with Resul Pookutty , a documentary on the magical sounds of pooram by Oscar-winning sound editor Resul Pookutty will be screened at Thekke Gopura Nada on Saturday .
The gifted sound editor and his team of technicians have condensed the 36-hour-long festivities of the Thrissur Poroam, one of the biggest sound events of the world, to a four-and-a-half-hour-long documentary. He documented the magnificent sounds of the festival — from the drum beats to parading of elephants and pyrotechnics — to save them for posterity.
While recording the event, Mr. Pookuty said it was his long-cherished dream to record the magical sounds of Thrissur Pooram and to take it to the rest of the world. “Thissur Pooram is the eighth wonder in the world and I want to place people elsewhere in the world in the middle of the festival ground,” he said.
Mr. Pookutty used 164 tracks for capturing the sounds of Thrissur Pooram.
A portion of the documentary with half-an-hour length will be screened on a large LED screen at Thekke Gopura Nada at 6 p.m. on Saturday.
The launch of a song in the movie The Sound Story , in which Mr. Pookutty acted as lead, will also be held on the occasion.
Made during the last Thrissur Pooram, the song Pooram Varavayi has been dedicated to Thrissur Pooram and the legendary elephant Thiruvambadi Sivasundar, which died a month ago, according to the producer of the documentary Rajeev Panakal.
The documentary and the film The Sound Story have been produced by Palmstone Multimedia. The Sound Story will be released in the five languages of Malayalam, Hindu, Tamil, Telugu and English.
