Banasura Pushpotsav 2018 , a 60-day flower show organised by the Kerala Hydel Tourism Centre (KHTC), a subsidiary of the Kerala State Electricity Board, will be held on the premises of Banasura Sagar Reservoir near Padinharethara in Wayanad from April 1 to May 31.

The maiden flower show of the KHTC in the district envisages to tap the full tourism potential of the reservoir, the second largest earthen dam in Asia, and make it a major tourism destination in the State, KSEB assistant engineer A.R. Bosanlal has said.

“Nearly a sum of ₹1 crore has been spent for setting up the permanent garden with 120 varieties of flowering plants on three acres of land as part of the programme,” said Mr. Bosanlal, who is also KHTC special officer.

As many as 50 stalls, including 10 commercial stalls and 15 nursery stalls, will exhibit different varieties of flowers, plants, vegetables, modern agriculture implements and ornamental fish.

The government had earmarked ₹24.5 lakh for laying interlock bricks on the 450-metre pathway to the dam top. A sum of ₹50 lakh would be spend on setting up a rain shelter, ticket counter, comfort station and vehicle parking area in the first phase of construction work, he said.
