The killing of CPI (Maoists) central committee member Koppam Devarajan, alias Yogesh alias Manoj, on Thursday is a severe blow to the Maoist activities as he was the brain behind the attempts to revive the movement in the southern States, K. Vijay Kumar, Senior Security Adviser to the Ministry of Home Affairs, said on Thursday.

Mr. Vijay Kumar, who was in Kerala where the All India Police Duty Meet is on, met the Director-General of Police Lokanath Behara.

“He (Koppam Devarajan) is a very important cadre of the Maoists and the Kerala Police have done a good job,” he told The Hindu over phone.

According to sources, Koppam Devarajan was in charge of the Maoist activities in the tri-junction of Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka.

Koppam Devarajan was wanted in a case by the Tamil Nadu Police and carried a reward of Rs. 2 lakh on his head.
