Toms college: panel report tomorrow

January 31, 2017 11:38 pm | Updated 11:38 pm IST - KOTTAYAM:

A subcommittee of the executive council of A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technological University (KTU), which arrived at Toms Engineering College, Mattakkara, on Tuesday completed the process of taking deposition from students and parents.

The three-member team led by Registrar G.P. Padmakumar took evidence from nearly 200 people. An earlier inquiry by the university had found serious flaws in the conduct of the institution.

According to the team members, the university will incorporate the findings of the subcommittee while taking a final decision on the future of the institution. They will submit the report by Thursday to the university.

Tension prevailed on the campus for some time as students and parents agitated against the management. They said the management was trying to move the students out of the buildings to a new facility on the campus. This was being planned to hoodwink the university.

The institution has been in focus ever since the students came out in violent protest against the misconduct of the management, especially its chairman, early this month.

‘Don’t sabotage decision’

The All India Save Education Committee has sought to stop the attempts made to sabotage the recommendation of the university to cancel the affiliation to the college.

A press note issued here by committee secretary Shajar Khan said college chairman Tom T. Joseph should be arrested.

All suspicious deaths in the college since 2004 should be probed again, he said.
