February 15, 2017 06:50 pm | Updated 06:50 pm IST - Thiruvananthapuram:

Power Minister M.M. Mani, on his first official visit to the Vydhyuthi Bhavan here on Wednesday, inaugurated a host of IT-based services for new connections, bill payment and for safety monitoring.

With the launch of the online application for new connections, consumers can get the formalities done without visiting the section office. Application for new connection can be submitted online.

For domestic and low tension consumers who need electric posts for new connections, the application fee and security deposit can be remitted online. The print out of the application, the applicant’s photograph and other documents should be handed over to the KSEB employee who will visit the house to provide the connection.

Consumers who need an electric post can pay the service connection application fee too online. The expense for the service connection and the security deposit amount will be intimated through SMS and e-mail after site inspection.

The KSEB also launched its mobile bill payment services. Bills could be paid through the Paytm mobile application. Electricity bills could henceforth be paid through any Akshaya Kendra.

The new Safety Monitoring and Accident Reporting Tool (SMART) aids the supervisors to ensure safety of the employees and to monitor and take action on accidents. Accidents will be reported real-time through this software. It will provide status of the safety equipment in various offices and take corrective action. Reports on accidents will be made available at the corporate level.

The Minister launched two applications specifically for the employees. The ‘Oruma net’ mobile application will help employees to remain connected to the office network even when they are out on the field. The ‘e-letter’ is aimed at keeping the employees aware of the decisions taken at the top and to ensure that all changes are communicated effectively, organisation-wide.
