7 file papers for panchayat bypoll in Kasaragod

P.K.M. Shahnavas of UDF, A. Moitheen Kunhi, LDF supported nominee of Indian National League, M. Baburaj of BJP are among the seven aspirants who filed nominations for the crucial bye-election to the Uduma division of Kasaragod district panchayat.

The nominations were filed before the District Collector E. Devadasan, who is also the Returning Officer, at the Collectorate here on Monday.

A.A. Latheef and A.K. Anwar Saddiq, dummy candidates of INL and UDF respectively, Independent candidates P.H. Abdulla and N.S. Moitheen Kunhi are the others who filed nominations for the July 28 bypoll, which was necessitated following the demise of senior Congress leader and district panchayat Standing Committee chairman Padur Kunhamu Haji, who passed away on April 23.

While the scrutiny process will be held on July 12, the last date for withdrawal of nomination is fixed on July 14.

The election result will be announced on July 29.

The UDF ruled 17-member district panchayat governing body has seven members from CPI(M) and two from BJP.
