As many as five Sabarimala-bound pilgrims were injured when the car carrying them skid into a ditch near Chalakkayam on the Mannarakulanji-Pampa main trunk road leading to Sabarimala on Monday.
According to police, all the injured were taken to the Ayyappa Medical Centre of the Kochi-based Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences at Pampa. A 43-year old pilgrim, Ezhimalai from Adiyannamalai in Meyur, was referred to Pathanamthitta General Hospital for advanced medical care.
Mohan, 39; Ezhimalai, 30; Shekhar, 37; and Sunder, 26, are the other injured pilgrims admitted with minor injuries, the police said. The Pampa police have registered a case.
Four hurt in accident
Four other Sabarimala-bound pilgrims were injured when the car they were travelling in plunged into a small stream near Attathode on the Mannarakulanji-Pampa road Monday afternoon.
The injured have been identified as Pavanakumar (35), Anil (32), Sivakumar (38), and Ajayakumar (40), all from Vilakkupara near Anchal in Kollam district.
The injured were given preliminary medical aid at the Amrita Hospital at Pampa and were later shifted to Pathanamthitta General Hospital for advanced care, police said.
A six-year old boy who was travelling in the car escaped unscathed, police said.
