48 injured in road mishap near Konni

As many as 48 persons were injured when two speeding transport buses carrying them collided with each other near Chittoor Junction in Konni on Thursday morning.

According to an eyewitness account, the mishap occurred around 8.30 a.m. when a Thrissur-bound fast passenger bus of the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation collided with a Punalur-bound private bus from Pathanamthitta with a cracking noise.

The local people, Fire and Rescue Force personnel and the police carried out the rescue operation.

All the injured were rushed to the General Hospital in Pathanamthitta, later.

Passengers who travelled in the KSRTC bus and were present at the General Hospital said the vehicle was reportedly having some technical problem with the steering wheel and the driver appeared to have lost control over the vehicle when it crossed Chittoor junction, leading to the collision.

According to hospital sources, the injured persons have been identified as:

Shilpa of Elanthoor,18, Lakshmi of Paadom, 24, Manu, 26, Satheesh of Konni, 24, Georgekutty of Vakayar, 56, Sasidharan, 48, Aswathy of Pathanapuram, 42, Biju of Vakayar, 30, Georgekutty, 48, Santhosh, 32, Ashraf, 37, Sheena, 26, Jini, 24, Babu, Said Mohammed, Annamma Babu, 48, Sarath, 26, Biju, Aysha Beevi, 49, Leelamma George, 42, Nisha, 22, Binu George, 26, Bipinlal, 26, Shan, 18, Scaria, 34, Anilkumar, 28, Aniyankunju, 45, Raveendran, 47, Adarshan, Sajin, Gireesh, Simon, Suraj, 22, Sujith, Biju, Jose, Abdul Razaq, Reghu, Akshaya, Sajeev, Bindu, 28, Bibi, Sreesha, Aji, Ratheesh, 20, Joy, Sarath and Beena.

However, no one's condition was serious, sources said.

Konni police has registered a case.
