The Kannur district conference of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI-M] concluded here on Saturday with a public rally.

There was a huge turnout of party workers. A red volunteer march was taken out. Party State secretary Pinarayi Vijayan inaugurated a public function.

A 47-member district committee of was formed at the district conference. It had 11 new faces.

Nine members from the existing committee, including T.V. Rajesh and James Mathew, both MLAs, were removed.

The MLAs, being party State committee members, were excluded citing dual roles. Old age and health reasons were cited in the case of others.

The new faces on the committee are: K.V. Govindan, K. Dhananjayan, K.K. Pavithran, Vadi Ravi, N.V. Chandrababu, N. Sukanya, P. Santhosh, Binoy Kuryan, Biju Kandakkai, K.V. Sumesh, and P.P. Divya. Senior party leaders in the district E.P. Karunakaran, K. Balakrishnan Nambiar, P. Balan, M. Jayalakshmi, Punchayil Nanu, P. Ramachandran, and P.V. Krishnan are the sitting members excluded from the new committee.
