Thanks to the efforts of the Viyyur Central Prison authorities and the police, 36 Bangladesh nationals, who were languishing in the jail for more than five months, were released on Wednesday. Police in Malappuram had arrested them at Edavannappara on September 6, 2017, for not possessing valid documents.

The Manchery court sentenced them to four months in jail and a fine of ₹100 each. They were sent to Kozhikode jail and later shifted to Viyyur. Their jail term ended on February 19. The deportation procedures were expedited by Viyyur jail Superintendent M.K. Vinod Kumar, Vazhakkad SI V. Jayarajan, and the Bangladesh embassy. The police will hand over them to the BSF at the India-Bangladesh border, who will hand them over to the Bangladesh police.
