Development projects worth ₹228 crore will be implemented under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) in Alappuzha municipality.
A drinking water project will be implemented at a cost of ₹128 crore.
K.C. Venugopal, MP, who chaired a meeting to review the progress of various projects implemented under the AMRUT scheme in the civic body recently, said tender process had begun for the drinking water project. “As part of the project, old pipelines will be replaced. Four tanks will be constructed in the municipality for the distribution of drinking water,” Mr. Venugopal said.
Other projects included renovation and cleaning of water channels at a cost of ₹46 crore, construction of 16 footpaths, 17 footbridges, and seven parks.
Mr. Venugopal said the construction of a footbridge connecting the Nehru Trophy ward with Alappuzha would begin soon.
The project is expected to cost ₹2 crore.
Footbridges will also be constructed at the municipal bus stand, Chungam bridge, Ambalappuzha canal, Ramapuram, A.S Canal, Pazhaveedu, Gandhi Vilasam, Beach ward, Muthalapozhi, KSRTC stand, among other places.
New parks
The new parks will come up at Chathanad, General Hospital, Vadackal Beach, and Valiyachudukadu, among other places.
A sum of ₹4.36 has been set aside for the constructions. The Town Square will be renovated at a cost of ₹1 crore, Mr. Venugopal added.
