As many as 20 pilgrims returning from Sabarimala were injured, nine of them seriously, when the mini bus carrying them overturned at Thirumoolapuram on the MC Road near Thiruvalla on Wednesday morning.
All the injured have been admitted to the Pushpagiri Medical College Hospital and at the Taluk Hospital in Thiruvalla.
The bus driver, Renjith, told The Hindu that all the pilgrims hailed from Azheeckal near Oachira and they were on their way to Chakkulathukavu Bhagavathy Temple.
Prasad, a local resident who took part in the rescue operation said the speeding bus overturned when the driver lost control over the vehicle around 7.45 am.
The pilgrims with major injuries who have been admitted to Pushpagiri Medical College are: Shivad, Arub Babu, Subhash, Vishnu.D, Bipin Babu, Babu.P, Sreelal and Lal.
Following are the 11 pilgrims who have been admitted to Thiruvalla Taluk Hospital:
Amal, 16; Manikantan, 27; Sreejith, 18; Rupesh, 27; Lalgy, 24; Adityan, 7; Saju, 27; Sajikumar, 39; Rajesh, 27; Gopalakrishnan, 45, and Kunjumon, 37.
District Collector, P.Venugopal, accompanied by Kuttoor grama panchayat president, K.C.Thomas and Antony Dominic, Revenue Divisional Officer, visited the injured pilgrims at the hospitals.
Thiruvalla police registered a case.
