The police investigating into the murder of RSS local functionary Choorakkad Biju near Ramanthali close to Payyannur on May 12 have arrested two local Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) workers.

The arrested have been identified as N.P. Raneesh, 28, and K.V. Jyothish, 26, both natives of Ramanthali village. The police said that while Raneesh was one of the assailants who had hacked Biju to death, Jyothish had passed information on the victim.

“We are closely behind the other accused in the case,” said Taliparamba Deputy Superintendent of Police K.V. Venugopal, who is investigating the case. He said that the police were not in a position to disclose details about the other accused at this stage of the investigation.

They said Raneesh and Jyothish were close friends of C.V. Dhanaraj, who had been hacked to death at Ramanthali on July 11 last year. Biju was one of the accused in the murder. The police said that Biju’s movements had been under the surveillance of the assailants for some time.

The police secured information of the people involved in the murder after seizing the car used by them for tailing Biju who was pillion riding on his way home on May 12. The car owned by one Bijoy had been hired by the assailants. The two-wheeler was knocked down by the car near Palakkod bridge and Biju was hacked to death.
