Around 1,500 acres of land, both Revenue and surplus, have been identified as part of implementing the ‘zero landless’ scheme in the district.

Under the scheme, landless families would be allocated three cents each in various villages, official sources said.

The officials plan to hand over the land to 22,000 applicants in the districts.

The authorities have received nearly 12,000 applications, they said.

They will be provided land in their respective villages as per its availability.

In the event of failure to identify land in respective areas, the applicants would get land in other villages or taluks.

The Revenue and Survey Department officials have identified 462 acres in Ambalathara village and 83 acres in Cheemeni village. Karinthalam (46 acres), Kinannur (31), Badakam (66), Enmakaje (19), Kayyur (52), Kolathur (31), Koyipadi (19) are the rest of the idenfied villages.

Steps are under way to distribute land to all the landless families by August 15.

Efforts will begin shortly to identify the landless, preparing title deeds, disbursal of land and laying road and other basic infrastructure on the identified land, they said.

A review meeting of the zero landless scheme was held at the Collectorate conference hall as the function was attended by senior Revenue and Survey department officials.
