Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal is not contesting the Lok Sabha election from Delhi. This became obvious from the fourth list of candidates released on Monday.
In the list, the party declared the remaining two candidates for Delhi, four for Haryana, 13 for Karnataka, three for Punjab and 39 for Uttar Pradesh.
Party spokesperson Shazia Ilmi was offered the party ticket to contest against Congress president Sonia Gandhi from Rae Bareli but she declined. A former television anchor, Ms. Ilmi had unsuccessfully contested the MLA election from R.K. Puram in the New Delhi parliamentary constituency.
The party decided to field former journalist Ashish Khetan from the New Delhi seat and former Infosys Chief Financial Officer V. Balakrishnan from Bangalore Central. Devender Sehrawat, a former Army man, will be the party’s candidate for the South Delhi seat.
From the reserved Kaushambi seat, the party has declared the name of Shitla Prasad, and from Gautam Budh Nagar (Noida) the party’s candidate is K.P. Singh. The party considers both these seats, adjoining Delhi, as winnable.
Prominent party leader Illyas Azmi has been fielded from Lakhimpur Kheri in Uttar Pradesh.
