In a letter to the Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC), Hurriyat faction chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Saturday alleged that “the Indian State has waged war against civilian population.”

“It appears now that the State power has waged a war against the unarmed civilian population of J&K. Only in few days, five unarmed civilians were killed and dozens injured in firing by the Government for protesting against the reign of terror leashed by the Army, paramilitary and police,” reads the letter of the Mirwaiz addressed to Iyad Ameen Madani, the Secretary General of the OIC.The Mirwaiz alleged that “repeated imposition of curfew and severe restrictions on the movement of the people has virtually turned the Kashmir Valley into a large prison.”

“The situation is very grim and needs immediate attention to protect the population of Kashmir from the current spree of violence and terror at the hands of the government forces,” said the Mirwaiz .

The Mirwaiz also thanked the OIC “for supporting J&K’s legitimate struggle for the right to self-determination.”

India has a stated position that “the OIC has no locus standi on J&K” and has taken exception to its statements issued on the issue.
