The former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, M. Karunanidhi, met his daughter Kanimozhi, who was arrested in the 2G spectrum case, at Tihar Jail here on Monday, and spent half an hour with her.

The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam president arrived in Delhi in the morning to meet his daughter.

Mr. Karunanidhi reached the jail premises at around 5.30 p.m. accompanied by his wife Rajathi Ammal, Kanimozhi's husband Aravindan and their son.

According to a Tihar Jail spokesperson, the meeting lasted until 6 p.m. and was a private affair. The meeting took place in Jail No. 6 at the jail deputy superintendent's office, with only family members present to meet Kanimozhi.

Sources said it was a “very emotional” meeting.

After meeting Kanimozhi, Mr. Karunanidhi also met the former Telecom Minister, A. Raja, and Kalaignar TV managing director Sharad Kumar, who are also in Tihar Jail in connection with the 2G scam.

This was the first meeting between the 87-year-old leader and Kanimozhi after her arrest on Friday.
