It looks like Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will be getting a lot of mail on Monday. Residents from across the city have started sending postcards to the Chief Minister, asking him to withdraw the draft notification on Common Zoning Regulations, which, if approved, will see commercial establishments crop up in quiet residential neighbourhoods.
In some of the postcards, carrying the hashtag #HosaZoningBeda, citizens have asked Mr. Siddaramaiah whether or not their vote should go to him. “We expect at least 10,000 postcards to be sent by citizens in the coming days,” said Somayaji K.V.R., secretary of J.P. Nagar 4th Phase Residents’ Welfare Association.
Mr. Somayaji said he hopes that people from other cities and towns in Karnataka too would join the campaign as the notification affects them as well. Citizens under the Bengaluru Residents’ Associations’ Confederation Ensemble, a society comprising various RWAs in the city, have also started an online petition on change.org against the commercialisation of residential areas.
