Nineteen-year-old Sohail Hazratsaab Mulla has been arrested in the city on charges of raping a four-year-old girl child living in his neighbourhood, in Ramapur Site in Savadatti town. The accused was produced before the court and remanded to police custody.
The police said on Monday that the accused and family of the victim were neighbours. On Friday, the accused, a construction worker, lured the child with chocolates and took her inside his house when all others had gone away. The incident came to light when the girl returned home crying.
The parents, who learnt about the incident, informed the police which rushed to the spot and arrested the accused.
Police said the victim had been admitted to a hospital for treatment. The accused was also subjected to medical examination.
