Young farmer ends life in Srinivasapur taluk

A 32-year-old farmer committed suicide in a village in Srinivaspur taluk in Kolar district on Tuesday. Police gave the name of the deceased as Suresh, son of farmer

Shivanna of Jigachintapalli village under Gownipalli police limits. His body was found hanging from a tree in his land.

Suresh reportedly took the extreme step as he could not repay around Rs. 4 lakh he had borrowed for agricultural purposes. He was apparently upset as the tube-well dug failed to yield water. Suresh is said to have taken loans from private money lenders.

DC’s appeal

Deputy Commissioner K.V. Thrilokchandra and Tahsildar D. Vidyavathi visited the house and consoled the bereaved family. Mr. Thrilokchandra made a fervent appeal to the farming community in the district not to end lives fearing the burden of debt.

“The district administration is ready to lend a helping hand to the needy farmers and they should not panic,” he said.
