Writer and theatre personality Yogesh Master’s first directorial venture in the film industry ‘Marali Mannige’ will be released on May 5 across the State.
Addressing press persons, Yogesh Master said the Kannada film was an attempt on what ‘Ghar Vapsi’ really meant. Film’s lead actor Shankar Aryan was present.
Clarifying that his film had nothing do with the ‘Ghar Vapsi’ of Hindutva groups, Mr. Yogesh Master said that the film was an attempt to look what ‘Ghar Vapsi’ really meant in the context of the Indian families. “It is more focussed on the family relationships and social values,” he said.
Apart from directing the Kannada film, Yogesh Master has also written screenplay and lyrics for the film and composed music. The film has already been screened in various film festivals.
Mr. Yogesh Master admitted that the theatre influence was bound to be there, but clarified that as both medium were different he had retained some theatrical elements only to make some scenes look more impressive. He added that since there was a Marathi family in the film, some scenes had been picturised in Marathi with Kannada subtitles. Marathi ‘abhangs’ were also part of the film, which had seven songs. He said that his film was like a ‘bridge film’, have features of both art and commercial films.
Mr. Yogesh Master said that the film release was delayed by four months due to non-availability of theatres. “On May 5, we will release it in 50 theatres across Karnataka,” he said. The film’s cast includes Shruti, Suchendra Prasad, Aniruddh, Sahana and Arundhati Jatkar.
