The judicial custody of former Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa and his then cabinet colleague S.N. Krishnaiah Setty was extended to November 3 by the Special Lokayukta Court here on Saturday.
Mr. Yeddyurappa and Mr. Setty had been consigned to the Parappana Agrahara Central prison by the same court on October 15 in connection with two cases of alleged land grab filed against them by legal activists Sirajin Bhasha and K.N. Balraj.
While Mr. Setty appeared before the court on Saturday, Mr. Yeddyurappa did not. The jail authorities told the court that Mr. Yeddyurappa is ill and exhausted. However, the specific ailment is not known as the jail authorities did not affix the medical report of the jail doctor along with their other submissions to the court.
All the other accused in the case, including Mr. Yeddyurappa’s sons and son-in-law, who had been granted bail during the October 15 hearing, appeared before the court. As per the bail conditions, they surrendered their passports to the court.
The counsel for the accused also produced a copy of the High Court order that stayed a specific portion of the Lokayukta Court’s October 15 order. As per this order the Lokayukta Court had asked Mr. Yeddyurappa’s sons B.Y. Raghavendra and B.Y. Vijayendra as well as son-in-law R.N. Sohan Kumar to submit details of their companies’ financial transactions.
With the Lokayukta Court refusing to provide relief to Mr. Yeddyurappa, the hopes of his supporters are now pinned on the High Court where the incarceration of the BJP strongman is being challenged by his lawyers. The High Court is expected to hear the bail application on Monday.
