Yakshagana artiste and scholar D.S. Sridhar has been chosen for the Tallur Kanaka – Annayya Shetty Award instituted by Yakshagana Kalaranga here. The award will be presented to Mr. Sridhar at the Nutana Ravindra Mantapa here on May 24.
A press release issued by the Yakshagana Kalaranga here said that a day-long function would be held to mark the award presentation function. The works and achievements of Mr. Sridhar would be discussed at a symposium to be held at 10 a.m. M. Prabhakar Joshi, scholar, would preside over the symposium. Scholars M.L. Samaga, Padekallu Vishnu Bhat and Radhakrishna Kalchar would present papers.
A Tala Maddale episode ‘Brighu Shapa’ composed by Mr. Sridhar would be held from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Balipa Prasad Bhat, Adur Lakshminarayana Rao, Lakshmeesha Bendrudi, Radhakrishna Kalchar, Jabbar Samo, S. Ganapati Bhat, V. Vishnu Sharma, artistes, would participate.
An interaction will be held with Mr. Sridhar at 5 p.m. Veteran Yakshagana artiste Hosthota Manjunath Bhagawatha would preside over the award presentation function at 5.30 p.m. Ambatanaya Mudrady and Heranje Krishna Bhat, writers, would be the chief guests.
This would be followed by a Yakshagana performance ‘Sudyumna’ composed by Mr. Sridhar from 6.30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Artistes such as Ganapati Bhat, N.G. Hegde, K.G. Krishna, Gurunandan Sagar, M. Ishwar Nayak, Pradeep V. Samga would participate.
