A 29-year-old woman was found hanging from the ceiling at her in-laws’ house in Channapatna of Ramanagaram district on Sunday morning.

The woman's parents alleged her husband, owner of a bakery near Doom Light Circle in Channapatna, killed her for failing to bring additional dowry. The two, natives of Belur, got married two years ago, police said.

Her relatives, after learning of the tragedy, staged a protest outside the husband'sMahesh’s residence and urged the police to initiate stringent action against him, who was also questioned by the officials.

The police said that the cause of death could be ascertained only after the post-mortem. The body has been sent to the government hospital for postmortem examination.

A case has been registered in Channapatna Town police station.
